The Halal Gelatin

Today, we will introduce you to What Type of Gelatin can be Halal certificated.

Halal Gelatin

First, what is the Halal certificate?

Halal certificates will be applied to food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. And these products certificated by Halal mean they meet the standard of Islamic Law, without any “forbidden” ingredients. And these products also don’t touch any “impure” ingredients. This is very important for Muslim consumers because they only can use these products according to their religion and culture.

So What kind of gelatin is certificated by Halal?

There are different types of gelatin products in the market, we have Pork gelatin, Bovine Skin Gelatin, Bovine Bone Gelatin, and Fish Gelatin.

But halal certification has strict restrictions on the source of products, Pork is forbidden in Muslim culture. This means Bovine Skin Gelatin, Bovine Bone Gelatin, and Fish Gelatin can be Halal Certificated.

So when some customers ask for Halal Pork Gelatin, which is wrong. When the products’ source is from Pig. Halal can not certify it.

1. Halal requirements for Halal slaughter:

1) Animals to be slaughtered must be halal as defined in the Halal Regulations.

3) Animals must be alive before they are killed.

4) Animals must be completely butchered, made of metal, and with a sharp knife.

5) Before the slaughter must be said in Arabic: Bismillahi Allahu Akbar.

6) To slaughter an animal, it is necessary to cut the throat or the wide part of the esophagus and trachea, and the two lines on the neck;

7) The slaughter must be done with one cut.

2. The requirement for Halal gelatin production:

1) Production lines for halal products are independent of other product lines.

2) In the production process, avoid cross-contamination and prevent the mixing of non-Halal raw materials and other substances.

3) Halal finished product storage should also be stored independently.

For Halal gelatin suppliers, the above rules are the basic condition for applying for the Halal Certificate. And the authoritative prosecutor of the HALAL institution will conduct an inspection to certify Halal food products.
